Titanium dioxide has unique characteristics, such as the surface hydroxy groups involved, wetting properties, surface acidity or basicity, surface electrical properties and photochemical activity. A number of modification methods including spray drying method, surface active agent method, coupling agen tmethod, polymer film-forming method, surface reaction method, and chemical vapor deposition method have been reviewed and the prospects of the surface modification technology are probed.
