光计算是克服目前电子计算机发展所遇障碍的一条有效途径。本文作者将分三个专题(光学数字计算机、光学互连网络、光学神经计算机)来介绍有关光学计算机的研制情况和发展趋势。本期重点介绍光学数字计算机。发挥光学固有的并行性和自由空间互连的优势,研制出超高速光学数字算机,是人们正在期待实现的目标,目前仍继续努力寻找'光学硅',以期待研制出能与电子逻辑器件媲美的光双稳器件。专家们预计,光学数字计算机在90年代内将取得突破性进展。

At present,optical computing is a good way to overcome the obstruction which is met in the development of electronic computer.This is a target which people expect to reach,ie, developing the two advantages of the inherrent parallelism and the space-free interconnection of optics,and also making out ultra-high speed optical computer.But now it is necessary to search for the'optical silicium'in order to make out the optical bistability devices which can be com- pared with the electronic logic devices.The experts predicted that optical digital computer would make a breakthrough in the nineties of the 20th.
