Friedel-grafts acylation of ethylbenzene to form p -ethylacetophenone has been achieved. p -Ethylacetophenone is then oxidized,which constitutes a convenient synthesis of p -ethylbenzoic acid .The factors influencing the reaction are studied .The result indicates that,the yield and purity of p -ethylbenzoic acid can reach above 72% and 98% respectively.
