The paper puts two fable works, Karphar's Changing Shape and Mo Yan's Humor and Interest, under the criterion of 'Human Alienation'. Through comparison of these two fables from respect to their themes, writing styles and creative character, the author tries to probe into, from the surface of the spirit, the specific manifestation of the alienation presented under different social cultures in different eras. The author holds that getting a clear understanding of the essence of alienation is helpful in dealing with the appropritle dialectical relations between humans and nature, and humans and society so as to prevent alienation from spreading again in the 21st century.
