Dramas by Skakespear have been regarded as one of the greatest accomplishments of the Renaissance period. In the case of the social position of drama at that time, however, it belonged in the field of the lower strata of culture, where drama was much limited from content and form to the cast. As a result, Shakespear's own fate sharply contrasts with his position acknowledged by later generations. Nevertheless, the formation and development of dramas by Shakespear is both the result of the revolution of the Renaissance and the incentive contributing to the most fundamental ideological change brought about by the revolution.
