A Study of Jiaolong

蛟龙神话产生于战国早期 ,系由“交龙”一说演绎而来。“蛟龙”一词本来是指生活于水中的一种神异动物 ,但是这个传说在流传过程中发生了变异 ,有时又指鳄鱼、鲨鱼等凶猛的大鱼 。

The legend of Jiaolong emerged in the early days of the Waring States, and it was deduced from the legend of two mated dragons. The word “Jiaolong” originally referred to a mythical creature in the water, but the legend about the creature registered some variations during its spread. Sometimes it meant fierce fish like a crocodile or a shark, and sometimes it meant a big white eel.
