Taboos constitute one of the earliest social rules of human beings and an integral part of traditional culture of a nation. The taboos of the Yi people are mysterious and centuries old, so their causes can be traced to many elements and their cultural connotation and social functions are multiple faceted. Both positive and negatives factors can be found in these taboos, as far as their influence on both the material and spiritual life of the Yi people is concerned.
