汤斌是清代勤政爱民、刚正廉洁的名臣．他兴利除弊，为民造福；同时毁淫祠，兴社学，挽 颓风，厚习俗，民风为之一变。他选贤任能，大力整治吏风。他严于律己，自奉俭约．他的 学问人品为同代人所称道。

Tang Bin was a well-known government official in the Qing dynasty, who went by the name of cherishing the people, and diligence in his work. He started the good practices weeded out the corrupt ones and benefited the people. Meanwhile, he destoryed lewd temples, constructed community schools, turned the decadent customs into good and paid attention to the people's customs and habits, thus the people's customs turned into good. He selected and appointed the good and able men and vigorously renovated bad official habits. He was strict with himself and lived very simply. and was deeply praised by his contemporaneous people for his learning and morality.
