If examining the figures in the novel 'On the Cliff' written in the 1950s with the present cultural view, you will get a conclusion different with orthodox teachings. 'I' in the work is not the model of 'returning to the correct way after going astray', but a tragic figure of 'getting feelings with reason'.The 'wife' is not a new style woman, but one that turns to the sense of traditional morals. For the heroine Yang Liya, she shouldn't be degraded, but praised.
