Reflections on the Impossibility of Equivalent Translation Between Chinese and English

两种语言间互译 ,语言本身、民族、文化、审美观等因素不能忽略。等效翻译往往不是最好的表达方式。文章从诗歌、习语、双关语等几个受语言、文化、审美观影响最大的现象分析英汉语互译 。

When translating between two languages, we must take into consideration the languages themselves, races, cultures and aesthetic values, and equivalent translation is, sometimes, not the best way of presentation. This paper carefully studies the translation of poems, idioms, and puns, which most probably involve in differences in language, culture and aesthetic values, and concludes that equivalent translation is not effective in such cases.
