After the Second World War the Australian government carried out the assimilation policy towards the immigrants of non-English home backgrounds in order to establish a nation of uniformed culture. The assimilation policy as an endeavor to establish a cultural nationalism was in favour of forming an independent nation. But its striking characteristics of racism not only aroused the immigrants of non-English home backgrounds to fight against it but also drew Australian people's attention to reconsider those immigrants and their culture. At last the Australian assimilation policy failed, and the multi-culture trend has become irresistible in Australia.
