Reflections on the Forming Process of the Tradition of Revolutionary Culture Sin ce the May 4th Movement

五四新文化是革命文化的源头；新民主主义时期革命文化继承五四新文化爱国主义传统，形成独具特色的政治文化，这种政治文化与革命斗争互相促进，为革命的胜利立下汗马功劳，但五四时期以启蒙主义为特征的精神文化传统萎缩了；社会主义时期的革命文化在经历了曲折的探索过程之后，政治文化趋向成熟，物质文化得到重视，但精神文化滞后。重视政治文化、集体主义和传统是革命文化的突出特征，精神文化、个性主义和文化创新有待加强。革命文化是一个大系统，需要三个子系统互相促进方能永葆青春。

The New Culture of the May 4th Movement is the source of revolutionary culture. The revolutionary culture during the new-democratic revolution carried forward the patriotic traditions of the New Culture and formed characteristic political culture. However, the traditions of spiritual culture characterized by the enlightenment of the May 4th Movement withered after the hard exploring process of socialist revolution. Revolutionary culture is a general system, which needs three sub-systems to help each other forward to keep youth forever.
