北洋大学在中国近代工程教育史的地位

Beiyang University and its position in the history of modern Chinese engineering education

18 95年 ,中国创办的第一所高等学校天津北洋西学学堂 (北洋大学前身 )成立 ,设法科、土木工程、采矿冶金、机械工程四学门 ,标志着近代中国高等工程教育的开端。随后的几十年 ,北洋大学为中国工程界培养了大批工程技术人员 ,是中国最早组织公派出国留学的大学。北洋大学的办学思想、培养方式、系科布局、办学成就等在其五十多年的发展历史中起到了积极作用 ,在近代中国工程教育史上占有重要地位。

Founded in 1895, Beiyang University was the first institution of higher education in China. In the beginning, there were specialties of law, civil engineering, mining and metallurgy and mechanic engineering, which started the higher education of engineering in China. In the following years, thousands of qualified engineers graduated from the university and most of them became the pillars and backbones in the establishment and development of modern China. This paper described the history, disciplines, courses and achievement of Beiyang University, and compared its engineering education with other universities, and analyzed the causes of the development of this university.
