Yuan mei's Early Enlightening Thinking against Orthodox Tradition

18世纪的清代著名诗人袁枚,不仅竭力抨击宋儒和汉儒,斥责当世学风之弊,而且更力图挣脱儒经桎梏,直接向借圣人之言、圣人权威以实施文化专制主义的正宗儒学发起攻击,这确实具有谋求思想文化上自由与解放的启蒙意义。

The famous poet Yuan Mei of the 18th century Qing dynasty not only did his best to attack the Confucianists of the Song and han Dynasties by denouncing the drawbacks of their style of study, but also tried hard to shake off the Confucian shackles by launching direct attacks on the orthodox Confucianism which attempted to implement cultural autocracy helped by the sages' teachings and prestige. This surely played an enlightening role in the quest of ideo logical and cultural freedom and emancipation.
