摘要
成语历来是英语学习者最感头痛的一个问题 ,这不仅因为语言学界对成语的定义莫衷一是 。
English idiom is always a 'hot potato' to many non-native English learners, not only because of its diversified definitions in the circle of linguistics, but also because of its abstruse conceptual metaphors it embodies.This paper gives an analysis to English idiom and its metaphorical meanings, aims to discover the relationship between its metaphorical meanings and its cognitive motivation.
