摘要
环境与气候的变化是全球变化研究领域的中心课题。21世纪的气候将向什么方向发展决定着世界各国可持续发展战略的制定和实施。但气候模拟需要巨大的计算机资源,而通过互联网将分布在世界各地的PC机的空闲资源加以利用以实现气候模拟中集合预报的思想则不失为互联网时代科学研究的一种创新。
The changes of environment and climate are major subjects of global change study field. What the global climate will evolve determines the design and implement of sustainable development in the world. However, Predicting a large ensemble of probable future climate requires enormous computing power. One way to address this computing issue is to join the capabilities of thousands of PC's via internet, each PC predicting a possible climate of the future. This might lead to a paradigm shift in the world of climate modelling where supercomputing has always been considered as the option.
