Maeterlinck is the founder of symbolic drama.The theory of 'still drama' initiated by him and the dramatic creation subject to its influence has promoted Symbolism to a new climax,which marks a mature stage of the school of symbolic drama.It is characteristic of his dramatic theory to raise creative practice to theory.Starting with both theory and practice,this paper is to unearth the profound connotation and artistic feature of 'still drama',investigate not only the correspondence between his theory of 'still drama' and dramatic creation,but also the breakthrough in 'the theory of still drama' produced by his dramatic creation.
