With the significant increase of nonlinear and impact loads in the electric power network, the harmonics contamination in the public electric power network gets more severe, and endanger the safe and economic operation of the electric power netword and diferent kinds of electric equipment. The generation of harmonics in electric power system, source of harmonics, harmfulness of harmonics to electric power system,and actions to restrict harmonics are discussed in detail.
