美国历史上曾出现两次西部大开发浪潮 ,西部大开发的结果不但使美国各地区经济发展得到一定的平衡 ,使以前落后的西部经济迅速崛起并逐渐赶上东北部 ,而且先后令美国的国力出现突破性增长。本文简要地探讨了 2 0世纪中后期美国西部经济迅速崛起的原因及第二次西部大开发与人口迁移的关系。总结美国西部开发的经验 ,希望能对我国目前进行的西部大开发有所借鉴。

There were twice westward-development waves in American history, which resulted in both the breakthrough growth of the U.S national power and the balance of regional economy .The article discusses why western economy grew up so rapidly and probes into the relations between the second westward development and population migration. The experience of western development in the U.S may be useful for the ongoing western development in China.
