A century of contrastive studies between Chinese and English

本文总结了上个世纪汉语和英语的对比研究历史.百年汉英对比研究可划分为两个阶段:1977年以前,主要是由一些语言学家个人为了探讨汉语的特点而进行的研究;1977年以后,是为了建立汉英对比语言学而进行的大规模的研究.作者收集了90多本专著、1300多篇论文,以从中总结过去的经验,分析和预测本学科的发展趋势.

The paper presents a birds’ eye-view over the contrastive studies between the English and the Chinese languages during the past century. It divides the hundred years of study into two different periods: the period before 1977 when the study was carried out mainly by individual linguists out of an effort to explore the peculiarities of the Chinese language; and the period after 1977 when the study has been carried out on an ever-growing large scale with the endeavor to establish a scientific discipline. The author collects a data of over 90 books and 1300 papers to summarize the past experience and try to predict the future trend in this research field.
