论“六书”的本义

On the Original Meaning of the Six Scripts

本文否定“六书”是六种造字法和四种造字法与两种用字法的观点 ,认为“六书”的本义是指六种汉字 :象形字、指事字、会意字、形声字、转注字和假借字。文章指出 ,后人把“六书”看作六种造字法或四种造字法和两种用字法 ,原因在于汉儒解说“六书”时使用简称 ,从而混淆了象形字与象形的区别、指事字与指事的区别等。只有把“六书”与“六法”区分开来 ,才能还“六书”以本来面目。

Instead of deeming that they were six or four kinds of word formation and two word using ways,the paper indicates that the six scripts refer to six categories of Chinese Characters:pictograph,self explanatory,associative compounds,phonogram,mutually explanatory and phonetic characters.The Confucianism of the Han Dynastys comments on the six scripts for short was the reason for the later generations for regarding them as six or four kinds of word formation and two word using ways.As a result,they confused the differences of pictograph and resemble the shape,point affair word and point affair,etc.Only by distingushing the six scripts and'Liufa',will people be able to see the essence.
