教会中学外籍传教士校长素质的历史考察

Historical Study of Qualities of Headmasters of Missionary Middle Schools

教会中学的校长多由外籍神职人员担任 ,他们大多具有虔诚的基督教信仰 ,有很高的办学热情和较强的能力 ,在教会中学的创办与初步发展的过程中做出了重要的贡献 ,但其素质方面也存在着严重的缺陷。到了2 0世纪 2 0年代 ,教会中学面临着严峻的挑战 ,而这批外籍传教士校长的素质却明显退化了 ,成为教会中学世俗化与中国化的主要障碍之一 ,不可避免地为华人校长所取代。

The headmasters of missionary middle schools were mostly foreign clergies. They had devout belief in Christian,great enthusiasm in running schools and powerful abilities and they contributed to the establishment and primary development of these schools.But there were serious defects in their qualities.In the 1920s, these schools faced stern challenges; furthermore, the qualities of these headmasters obviously degenerated.They were one of the main obstacles in the way of secularization and nationalization of these schools.Hence,Chinese headmasters inevitably replaced them.
