On the Importance of Rejuvenation in Protecting Famous Historic Cities With Reference to Protecting the Historic Streets of Shaoxing

在张扬城市个性和特色的今天,由于无法避免的现实,名城保护、历史街区保护中更新问题一直困扰着人们.笔者认为,更新是保护的要求,也是现实的要求,更是人民群众提高生活质量的要求,是无法避免的.更新也应该是保护式的更新,要修旧如旧,保持风貌协调,保持历史街区有原汁原味.

Nowadays many cities lay stress on the unique style and features. Nevertheless,the sticky question is how to renew historic cities and streets without destroying them.In this paper,the author argues that rejuvenation is the only way to meet the demands of protecting historic cities and improving the people′s living environment.It is necessary for us to follow the principle of keeping the original--to retain old styles and features for the sake of keeping historic streets as they were.
