binaphthol is an importnat chiral raw material with C 2 symmetry. It has been widely used to synthesize chiral medicine, pesticide, spice and food additive. The recent advances in the synthesis of 1,1′ binaphthol are reviewed. Their applications of the chiral ligands made from 1,1′ binaphthol in asymmetric synthesis are described.
