略论翻译的种类

On Types of Translations

本文根据翻译的内容与目的将翻译分为四大类:(1)文学翻译;(2)广告文献与说明性文字翻译;(3)信息资料翻译;(4)摘要翻译。同时对各类翻译的内容、原则、要求、特点等进行了简单的论述。

This paper briefly discusses the sub-categories, the principles, the requirements and points for attention of the four types of translations, which are classified on the basis of their content and purposes. The four types are: (1) Literary Translation; (2) Translation of Promotional and Instructional Materials; (3) Translation of Informato-ry Materials; (4) Summary or Gist Translation. The paper points out that although different types of translations display different characteristics and have different requirements, yet the translation standard or principle may be the same, i. e. 'faithfulness' can reasonably serve as the translation standard or principle guiding all types of translations.
