摘要
《儒林外史》描写戏曲演出活动的目的 ,或是为了营造一个真实的环境 ,或是由此来刻划人物的性格。优伶鲍文卿是小说中为数不多的正面人物之一 ,作者塑造此形象的目的是将他与一些儒士作对比 ,从而突出读书人的行己无耻。“虽云长篇 ,颇同短制”是《儒林外史》最有特色的结构 ,然而此结构并非独创 ,是对《四声猿》之类的明清杂剧的仿照。《儒林外史》常以人物命运与行为的突转来增强讽刺效果 。
The purpose of the description about traditional opera performances in 'The Scholars' is either to create a life_like environment or to portray a certain character in the novel. Bao Wenqing, an actor and one of the rare positive scholars in this novel, is a contrast to those Confucian scholars with shameless behaviors. The structure of the novel is typical of 'as short stories', which is actually an imitation of Ming_and_Qing_dynasty's Zaju like 'Sishengyuan', instead of creation. To reach stronger satirical effect, the author of 'The Scholars' always arranges his figures in an environment facing an unexpectedly changed fortune, or lets his characters act in a quite different way compared with his erstwhile actions. Such is the means to reach dramatic effect.
