China's natural gas industry is experiencing rapid development while the electric power sector is entering a mature period. This sector will soon become a major natural gas consumer, setting the scene for intense market competition. Therefore, it is of great significance for PetroChina to study and formulate effective policies for natural gas fuelled power generation in order to take advantage of the economic opportunities, maintain its public image and keep its dominant position in the natural gas industry as it develops. PetroChina should conduct an in-depth study of the electric power system reform, make sure it has a profound understanding of the governmental supervision policies, take full advantage of the existing policies and formulate appropriate policies for the expansion of the natural gas fuelled power generation market.
