On Confucius's Thought of Oral Communication

孔门四科中的“言语”,用当今的话而言就是“说话”,或曰“口语交际”。通观孔子的有关言行,可以归纳出孔子口语交际思想中合礼、慎言、诚信、相容的诸项原则。其对口语交际中适切交际对象与适切交际环境等基本规律的揭示也是生动而深刻的。

Confucius's thought of oral communication is very rich. This paper discusses two aspects of this thought: one is basic principles of oral communication, including principle of ceremony, principle of prudence in wording, principle of honesty and principle of compatibility; the other is basic laws of oral communication: appropriateness to the communication partner, and appropriateness to the communication atmosphere.
