Education has progressed from elitist education to mass and universal education; from adult education to education for all and continuing education;from lifelong education and lifelong learning to lifelong education for all;from the idea of a learning society to that of a learning organization and so on. The development of educational theories related to the above progressions and their related educational practices not only set the scene for the arrival of the information era and knowledge economy, but also lay the foundation for theories in the apoplication of educational technology and the continuing development of distance education.
