The proportion of faults in Character Question is always higher than that in Words and Phrases Question in PSC(the Putonghua proficiency test). A random investigation demonstrates that the proportion of faults of morpheme characters doubles that of word characters in the Character Question. Single morpheme character is hardly heard in people's daily use of the language. As a result, the examinees are very likely to give wrong interpretations of the single morpheme character without the help of context. Such faults have nothing to do with the Putonghua proficiency of examinees. Hence the morpheme characters in test question interfere with the evaluation of an examinee's proficiency level.
