邹代钧与中国地理学的发展——以邹氏所创的舆地学会为中心

Zou Daijun and the Development of Chinese Geography Taking the Geograply Society Established by Zou for Example

邹代钧(1854-1908年),晚清著名的地理学家、地图学家及地理学教育家,早年出使英、俄等国。1895年春夏间,他利用在国外收集的地图,独资创办了中国近代地理学学会团体的雏形——译印西文地图公会(简称地图公会),后改称舆地学会。这个学术团体主要从事地图的译印和出版,出版了七百多张地图,并且在中国首次采用了烂铜版法,使地图出现了彩色印刷,在晚清地理学界和学术界有很大的影响,也对中国近代地理学的发展、地图的印刷出版以及地名学的发展有着重要的意义。本文就邹代钧的生平、舆地学会创办的缘起、经营、活动、影响等方面分析其对中国近代地理学的影响。

Zou Daijun,a famous geographer,cartographer and geography educator in late Qing Dynasty, was accredited to England and Russia in his early years.In 1895,He utilized the maps collected abroad,es- tablish the embry onie form Of Chinese modern geography soeidy——Franslatiny and Publishing Western Maps Guild (Map Guild for short).This guild was engaged in translating and publishing all kinds of maps.During thirteen years,it publirhed more than seven hundred maps.Futhennore,Zou adopted the methed of tanto- nyban (烂铜版) to publich these maps.this method was adoptedfor the first time in China.Because he adopted this method,colour maps came into being in china.It had a great influence in the geogrophy circles and academic circks.At the same time,it had a significent sense the development of chinese geography the publishmeat of maps and he developmeat of toponymy.This thesis will discuss the origins of stablishment. management,activities and the influecement of the geography ociety,then analyse the effect on the develop- ment of chinese wdern geography.
