Advances in computer analysis of the English language have revealed a widespread occurrence of lexical patterns in language use, which show some connections between vocabulary and grammar. It is worthwhile to study the way words are combined into patterns and to teach students verbs as prefabricated chunks. Verbs of the same pattern share aspects of senses; i.e. specific patterns carry semantic information. An acquitance with the potential patterns of English verbs helps use the language more accurately.
