A sample preparation method is described for direct determination of Na in lubricants by x ray fluorescence spectrometry. The samples are made into thin films by dropping oils on filter paper. The main advantage of the method is that the sample do not need pretreatment. The method is rapid and accurate and has been used to samples with concentration of Na larger than 0.01%.
