澳大利亚通信市场于1997年开放后,虽然发放了许多运营许可证,但在固定通信市场的的主要竞争者仍是Telstra和SingTelOptus,且目前的竞争主要体现在宽带接入上。在移动方面,目前的市场份额主要被Telstra、OptusMobile和Vodafone三家所瓜分,而后进入者Hutchison只占有微不足道的份额。Telstra公司多年来一直在进行私营化,但由于在农村的服务质量等原因,进展不大,目前仍然由国家控股。

After the opening of telecom market in Australia in1997,though many operation licenses are issued,competitors in fixed tele-com market are mainly Telstra and SingTel Optus and the competition is mainly in broadband access.In mobile communications,up to now,market is mostly shared by Tel-stra,Optus Mobile and Vodafone,while the new incomer Hutchison only possesses little quo tient.For many years,Telstra has been pri vatilizing.But,due to mediocre service quality in rural area,it made on ly lit tle progress.Now,the share still hold by the country.
