The Shortcoming of the Novels at the End of the Last Century and Prospects in the New Century——A discussion on the everlasting literary works like Lu Xun's novels

立意的深远、丰富的思想内涵和完美的艺术性等,使鲁迅的一些小说成为传世文学。这与鲁迅的人生经历和阅历,重视艺术的表现尤其是他的高度的民族历史责任感和使命感是密切相关的。世纪末的小说,创作时由于缺少历史的高度,或成就一个方面,便当代文学难于久传后世。而在市场经济冲击下,使文学变味,更是传世之作的创作追求偏离方向。汲取鲁迅创作的给养,辛勤于艺术的耕耘,才能在新世纪的小说创作中出现巅峰之作。

Some of Luxun's novels have become everlasting because of their profound conception, rich connotation and perfect artistry. This is closely related to Lu Xun's personal experience, his attaching importance to the means of artistic expression and his sense of responsibility to nation and history. The novels at the end of last century, however, couldn't last long for the lack of historical point of view. Moreover, under the impact of market economy, the creation of literary works has been misled. In this case, we should absorb something from Lu Xun's works, working hard to welcome the appearing of new everlasting literary works in the new century
