The collection of tales titled Shishuo xinyu depicts the words and deeds of the literati class in the Wei and Jin Dynasties and achieves the plaintive and moving style of that period--mourning the passing of time and life.The faithful record of the facts and the critical appraisal of characters make the tales overwhelming.The tales in the collection are in the organic form of figure,plot and theme,and this proves to be the original form of Chinese novel.
