学尹公制定地层命名法的基本精神及治学的道德风范——纪念老师尹赞勋诞辰100周年

BASIC PHILOSOPHY OF THE STRATIGRAPHIC NOMENCLATURE WORKED OUT BY PROFESSOR YIN ZANXUN AND HIS MORAL STYLE IN SCHOLAR RESEARCH:CENTENNIAL MEMORY OF THE BIRTHDAY OF PROFESSOR YIN ZANXUN (T. H. YIN)

本文通过对地层命名法的基本精神和原则———以发表 (或出版 )为基础的优先权法则的学习心得叙述 ,回顾尹赞勋院士当年在制定中国地层命名法时 ,坚持一个新名建立必须在公开发行的出版物上发表这一符合全世界生物地学界共识的地层命名法的哲学精神方面所做的重要贡献和意义。作者对比全国地层委员会今天对优先权采用双重标准 ,从而干扰地层命名法的基本精神执行 ,显示尹公制定地层命名法所持的基本精神明智、正确和意义重大。文章通过“龙马页岩”改为“龙马溪页岩”这一正确订正 ,解决了其与“龙马石灰岩“的同名关系事例 ,感受到尹公治学的高尚道德风范。

February 23 of this year is the memorable day of the 100th anniversary of the birthday of my teacher Professor Yin Zanxun. This paper gives a brief account of his insisting on the law of priority and the philosophy of stratigraphic nomenclature, and his moral style in scholar research. In Stratigraphic Code of China (1960) and Stratigraphic Guide of China (1981) both worked out by Professor Yin, he emphasized repeatedly that when all of the naming requirements are met to establish a new name of stratigraphic unit, the naming document must be published in an open circulation. Today, however, the Stratigraphic Guide of China (revised edition) (2001) has adopted a double standard for the priority, so called 'the principle of historical priority'. The priority based on publication is the philosophy of stratigraphic nomenclature generally accepted in the international biological and earth science circles. According to the principle of historical priority, however, those naming authors and dates recorded in unpublished manuscripts will get acceptance only because they may possibly be recorded earlier. This has bought about much confusion in Chinese stratigraphic nomenclature. In order to defense the priority of publication, Professor Yin made long and untiring efforts. Also, this paper gives an example showing Yin's lofty moral style in scholar research: the homonym problem of the Lungma Shale and the Lungma Limestone was successfully solved by correcting the Lungma Shale into the Lungmachi Shale.
