A recent cluster of crimes committed by migrant children, who move to cities from the countryside with their parents,have generated headlines in China, triggering widespread concern and raising the question of what turned the adolescents into villains. Official statistics show that China has more than 262 million migrant workers--those who have moved from rural areas to cities in search of employment opportunities. Often working long hours as manual laborers, migrant workers are often unable to participate in the education and raising of their children as much as they should. Some migrant children turn to forming gangs and robbe~ without the guidance of their parents to keep them in school and steer them in the right direction.
