West Han Emperor Wu's Development of the Southwest Ethnic Region from a Perspective of the Geopolitical Strategy

文章在分析汉武帝开发西南夷地区的政策措施基础上,认为其经略西南夷的过程始终贯穿着地缘战略思想。一方面汉武帝开发西南夷地区是其一统天下的重大战略布局;另一方面,通过开发西南夷地区,进而把西南夷地区作为其进攻南越和匈奴的一个战略大后方。汉武帝对西南夷地区的开发有利于汉朝统治秩序的稳定和西南边疆经济社会发展。

Based on its analysis of the policies and measures of southwest ethnic region development by Emperor Wu of the West Han dynasty, this essay holds that the geopolitical strategy breathed through the entire process of his rule over China＇s southwest ethnic region. On one hand,Emperor Wu of Han practiced a key strategy to develop the southwest ethnic region for multiethnic unification of the Chinese nation, on the other hand, through development of the southwest ethnic region, the region could be taken as a strategic home front for the emperor＇s his assault against the northern Xiongnu and the southern Yue ethnic regions. Also, the emperor＇s exploitation of the southwest of China was conducive to stabilization of the ruling order during the Han dynasty and socioeconomic growth of China＇s southwest borderland.
