The paper takes Hou Fangyu as a breakthrough point focusing on his tragedies,which is primarily reflected on the following： first of all, the entire drama depicts a personal love tragedy of an individual, conceded to politics due to subjective and objective factors; secondly, Hou Fangyu lived amongst both positive and villainous characters and it appeared impossible to realize his political ambition leading to personal court career tragedy; thirdly, after the failing love and political career in life, eventually he could only concerted himself into Taoism for mental extrication.
