从“草乌”和“断肠草”的英文名看中药的英语翻译

On the English Translation of Traditional Chinese Medicines from the English Name of "Kusnezoff Monkshood" and "Graceful Jessamine Herb"

从近期云南白药宣布其配方含有草乌,即断肠草这一事件,引出草乌和断肠草的英文名,从而进一步讨论中药的英语翻译,及其应当注意到的中药名翻译过程中存在的相关问题。通过讨论分析,我们得出在翻译中药和中医术语时归化与异化应该相结合,由此希望合适的中药中医术语翻译能够促进中国与世界更好地进行学术文化交流。

From the recent announcement by Yunnan Baiyao that its formulation contains Kusnezoff Monkshood, namely, Graceful Jessamine Herb, the English names of Kusnezoff Monkshood and Graceful Jessamine Herb were aroused, thus making us further discuss the English translation of traditional Chinese medicines as well as the relevant problems that should be noticed in the translation. Through discussion and analysis, we have come to the conclusion that the translation of traditional Chinese medicines and related terminologies should combine domestication and for-eignization, thus hoping that proper translation of traditional Chi-nese medicine terminologies can promote better academic and cultural exchanges between China and the world.
