Examining Translation of Reports on the Work of Chinese Local Governments:A Case Study of Translating the Report of Government Work of Jiaxing Municipality

地方政府工作报告兼具书面语体和口语语体特征,英译时,应根据视角、语气和风格要求,既注意书面语的准确性和严谨性,又要保持口语语体的传播特征。在此,重点探讨了数字及其缩略词的翻译策略。认为地方政府工作报告和中央政府工作报告语境相同,功能相似,地方政府工作报告的翻译可参考中央政府工作报告的英文版。

This paper explores styles of the local government work reports and the translation strategies for the English translation of the work reports.The functions of the figures and facts in the reports are summarized and the translation solutions are examined,while the strategies for the translating of numeral＋ Chinese abbreviation are scrutinized for best communicative effect.The author argues that the translator may refer to the English translation of the Government Work Reports by the central government.
