Lermontov created the writing tradition of disharmony theme in Russian literature. In which he introduced the duality of humanity into description. The author, with strong spirit of romanticism, created various character images of demons. Those demons have highly developed subject consciousness and intensive spirit of self-examination. They intend to be good and honest yet kept on doing wrong. By putting the subject＇ s kindness against the wickedness of the environment, Lermontov showed his contempt and resentment through his characters to the world. The demons ended up in their own fate and perished. We can see the limitation of understanding toward humanity in romanticism through this.
