The oriental theme and the image of the oriental culture ran through the writing career of Lermontov, which was due to the influences of many inspiring factors ： from the prevalent “Orient” complex in European Romanticism to the poet＇ s life experiences and the status of the “issue of the Orient” in Russian politics in the 1830s-1840s. In his last works, the issue of the Orient and the West was typed. The Russian culture is regarded as a third euhure between the Orient and the West. It is this betweenness that makes Russia the carrier of a comprehensive culture. The issue of culture type embodies all of Lermontov＇ s thoughts in his writing.
