Two way investment between China and Europe has surged in recent years, providing major impetus for economic and trade co-operation. Growth is especially evident in Chinese investment in Europe, due to a smaller base. Data from the Ministry of Commerce （MOFCOM） show that direct EU investment in China increased to US$7.21 billion in 2013, up 18.07% year-on-year. Direct Chinese investment in the EU, meanwhile, surged by 221.7% during the first half of 2014.
