邓小平晚年主要指他1989年11月经中央同意退休后的这段时间。邓小平晚年仍然心系党和国家的前途,思考改革开放和现代化建设中出现的新情况和新问题。他强调要理直气壮地坚持四项基本原则,指明社会主义市场经济的优越性"就在四个坚持",政治体制改革必须坚持社会主义方向;直面两极分化的出现,尖锐指出贫富悬殊、两极分化可能导致的严重后果;紧密地从我国农业实际出发,提出农业的"两个飞跃"的思想;提出每年领导层都要总结经验,以不断改进我们的工作;强调党的建设的重要性,指出加强党的建设的关键是我们共产党内部要搞好。

Deng Xiaoping's later years mainly refers to the period after November 1989 when he retired with the consent of the CPC Central Committee. In this period, Deng Xiaoping still cared about the future of the Party and the country, and thought about the new situations and problems appearing in reform and opening up and modernization. He stressed that we must adhere to the Four Cardinal Principles confidently, which is just the superiority of the socialist market economy, and the reform of the political structure must adhere to the socialist direction; faced the emergence of polarization, and sharply pointed out the serious consequences of the disparity and polarization; closely from China's agricultural reality, put forward 'Two Leaps' thought; proposed the leadership to sum up experiences every years in order to improve our work; stressed the importance of party building, pointed out that the key was doing best inside the Party.
