Objectives:To investigate the etiology of generalized anxiety disorder by linear regression. Methods:The third item of Self-Report Symptom Inventory (SCL-90), “Unwanted thoughts, words, or ideas that won’t leave your mind”, is regarded as the appearance of “time-point wicked idea”. To deduct their inner relationship and etiology of generalized anxiety disorder, the linear regression was conducted to analysis the relationship of scores for third item of SCL-90 and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) . Results:When scoring with coarse total score for BAI, linear regression equation is Y=15.5075+6.8183 X ( t=15.36, P〈0.01). When scoring with standard total score for BAI, linear regression equation is Y=18.4539+8.1138 X ( t=15.36, P〈0.01). Meanwhile, we observed that the“Unwanted thoughts, words, or ideas that won’t leave your mind”has a predictive and decisive effect on scores for BAI. It exists in the whole course of disease as“persistent wicked idea”and plays a decisive role in the onset and outcome of generalized anxiety disorder. The correlative and causal relationships between the third of SCL-90 and BAI are clearly existent in patients’ sense. Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between scores of SCL-90 and BAI in statistics and clinic. This correlation is definitely experienced by patients. These serve as three proofs of the hypothesis that“persistent wicked idea”is the etiology of generalized anxiety disorder.
