用新视角审视太平洋岛屿国家现代化进程

The Process of Modernization of Pacifi c Island Countries from a New Perspective

太平洋岛屿地区是目前世界上最不发达的国家最为集中的地区之一。现代化建设是每个岛屿国家独立后所面临的紧迫任务之一。然而,独特的地理位置、悠久的文化传统、遭遇西方国家殖民的经历、同质化的资源环境以及后发所面临的诸多困难与挑战,使得这一地区各国现代化的进程颇为坎坷,以至于用西方学者的现代化理论去审视岛屿国家的现代化进程及其水准不仅会自损信心,而且会遭遇尴尬。有鉴于此,赋予现代化以新的内涵并以新视角来看待岛屿国家的现代化进程不仅有理论价值,而且具有现实意义。

The least developed countries in the world are densely located in the Pacific Island area. Modernization has been a most urgent task for each island country there since its independence. However, these countries experienced an unstable process of modernization owing to their geographical constraints, established cultural traditions, colonization by the west, homogenized resources and environment, and other difficulties and challenges. In viewing their modernization process, western theories would only mean low standards and impaired confidence of these countries. It is necessary, therefore, to re-interpret the concept of modernization and examine the process of modernization from a new perspective.
