谈到李端棻,人们往往称赞他首倡创办京师大学堂之功,对他提拔人才、倡言变法的论述也很多,但是当前关于他对中国近代学制改革贡献的研究却不多。通过分析近代学制的演变,认为李端棻的《请推广学校折》实为中国学制近代化的先声。

When it comes to Li Ruifen, he is often credited with initiatively advocating funding Peking Imperial University, and much has been contributed to his promoting talents and proposing reform; little, however, has been touched on his contribution to the reform on China＇s modern education. The analysis of the evolution of modem education system suggests that his Petition for Popularizing School Education is actually the predecessor of the modernization of China＇s education system.
