格雷厄姆·格林一生创作了多部内容深刻的国际政治小说。以老杜瓦利埃执政时期为背景的《喜剧演员》就真实再现了大国"冷战"影响下的海地政治危机和三股政治力量的生死博弈,即独裁者、反抗者和英美外来干涉势力之间惊险残酷而又无奈愚蠢的反复较量。虽然小说家格林曾经与老杜瓦利埃本人有过通过媒体的生死对抗,但在"作为高尚艺术的冒险小说"中,他却聚焦于国际霸权与国内独裁之间相互利用、民不聊生的海地现实,从而极富前瞻性地否定了"冷战"思维、抨击了不负责任的外来"干涉",并从整个人类共同生存的高度去剖析人性的复杂性,发现对抗恐惧和混乱的方法与能量。

Graham Greene has written several profound international political novels. Based on Francois Duvalier's government in Haiti,the novel The Comedians represents the political crisis in Haiti under cold war and the brutal and silly conflicts among three political entities which are the dictator,the rebels and the foreign interventions like GB and US. Although the novelist Greene has countered Duvalier on the media,he successfully focused on the mutual use between external supremacy and internal dictatorship and the hard reality of Haiti in the so-called adventure novel considering as serious art. Accordingly,Greene has rejected the coldwar thinking and the irresponsible foreign interventions predictively. Through exploring the complexity of human nature on the level of the whole human race's living,the ways and energies to fight horrors and chaos have been discovered.
